Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session

The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.

Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.

The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.

Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.

The Japanese spun out over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.

The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.

Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.

Norris and Piastri were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.

Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
