From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the group enter locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Strategists groups.
Viewers can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
